Both the girls’ and boys’ golf teams for Columbus had to deal with some chilly conditions in their respective tournaments last week. The Cards took on the Rattler Invitational Tournament on Monday, Jan. 23 and the Lady Cards followed with a Wednesday trip to Navasota. Despite the cold temperatures, both teams came away with strong results as they combined for several sub-100 scores. Their performances were reflected in the overall team standings as well. The Lady Cards finished in second place as a team while the Cards finished in the top half of the overall standings.
The boys accounted for many of those sub-100 score sheets as the five players all shot below the 100-stroke mark. Kaldon Roensch was far and away the team’s leader with a score of 83. Cullen Loessin shot 92 as the team’s next best score. Not far behind was Adam Schobel with a score of 94, Will Wilburn who shot 95 and Parker Meyer who finished with 97.
The girls also had a couple of sub-100 hitters as well as some of the tournament’s top performers. Jordyn Templeton finished third overall after a scorecard playoff because of a tie at 92, the Lady Cards’ leading mark. Kambrie Toppel also shot 92 and finished as one of the meet’s top golfers. Thea Schobel came in at 101, Katharine Burnett shot a 119, and Kerigan Faldyn finished with 119 to round out the team performance.
