WJHS volleyball finds wins over past weeks

The WJHS Ladycats played Flatonia in Weimar on Monday, Sept. 11. Flatonia has just three teams so only the eighthgrade teams and the seventh- grade A team played. The eighth-grade B-team won both games 25-15 and 25-11. The Ladycats had some fantastic serving by Karina Martinez and Angelic Jenkins. The eighth-grade A-team won in two games, 25-10 and 25-8. MJ Griffin had 12 serves, Kailea Burley had eight serves and Ty’Rianna Rhodes had six serves. Zariah Sims had three big hits and Victoria Sherwood played well on the net.

On Saturday, Sept 16, the A-team traveled to the Brenham tournament. This is a great tournament each year because it exposes Weimar to larger schools and some quality play. The Ladycats first played a very good Sealy team and lost two very close games, 23-25, 22-25. The Ladycats then played East Bernard and won in two with scores of 25-17 and 25-12. Weimar finished up the day playing Columbus. We again lost two very close games 2125, 23-25.

Although it was not the outcome that we were hoping for I feel that the girls and the team grew from playing better competition. We did not finish in crunch time and that is something that we are going to work on moving forward. Losses are okay if they motivate you to be better and we can grow from them.

Weimar traveled to Schulenburg on Monday, Sept. 18. They also only have three teams so just the 8B, 7A and 8A teams played. Eighth-grade B-team won two big games by a deciding score of 25-9 both times. Arianna Grant and Shelby Hopkins contributed with some great serves. Karen Villanueva is a quality passer in the back row and is very consistent. The eighth-grade A-team also won in two games: 25-10 and 25-12. Olivia Noska had a great night from the serving position and served 15 serves throughout the night.

It was a great night to be a Ladycat!!!
