COLUMBUS — The Commissioner’s Court approved a proclamation to recognize Oct. 1 through Oct. 7 as National 4-H Week in Colorado County.

The 4-H organization has been impacting the lives of children from 8 years old to 19 for over a century as they promote hands-on education in science, health, agriculture and civic engagement. It is the largest youth development organization in the country as more than 65 thousand youth in Texas are enrolled members of the organization. National 4-H week usually starts on the first Sunday of October and spans throughout the first week as the organization recruits members and thanks supporters in their respective local communities.

In Colorado County as well as several other rural areas, many students place their focus on the agricultural aspects of the organization. Many members in the county participated in the livestock show portion of the county fair.

Several local businesses support the 4-H branch inside the county as 4-H is represented in each area and town inside the county.
