County GOP celebrates victories, introduces candidates

COLUMBUS – The Colorado County GOP hosted longtime conservative figurehead as a featured speaker along with several republicans who will soon be on the voting ballots during their candidate meet-and-greet at the Old 300 Saloon on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Led by the direction of County Chairman Tom Kelley, the event introduced several candidates for local offices like county sheriff and precinct judges.

Dr. Steven Hotze was the featured speaker as he took the stage first. Hotze emphasized to the conservative crowd the importance of voting in republicans to state and local positions that have a firm conservative stance. He implored the attendees to “hunt down the RINOs” by using their vote to remove elected officials who they have deemed to be ‘Republican in Name Only’.

Hotze also celebrated the political victory for republicans in the state legislature as Attorney General Ken Paxton returned to his position after a months-long period of court hearings to determine the result of his state senate impeachment trial. The Texas House first impeached Paxton in May, resulting in the political battle to decide his fate before he was acquitted on 16 charges in the Senate. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick certified the acquittal and officially reinstated Paxton to his office.

Following Hotze’s call to action for republican voters, several county candidates introduced themselves as well as the office they are running for.

The candidates present were Kristin Guiney, a standing judge in Harris County who is running for the Court of Appeals, Tonya McLaughlin who is running for the 14th Court of Appeals, a separate court race than Guiney. Local sheriff’s candidates like Wendy Alley and Justin Lindemann were also present at the meet-andgreet to push for their campaigns as well. Candidate for Precinct 1 commissioner Reuben Taylor was in attendance as well current Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3 and former secret serviceman Donald Clark. Retired police officer Benny Zajicek also spoke about his candidacy for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3.

The Colorado County GOP will continue to hold meetings to provide more information on republican candidates as well as conservative policies and issues that will be in upcoming ballots.
