COLUMBUS — In a county with a strong connection with its German and European heritage, the Hound Song Brewing Company brought some of that culture back within its walls as they hosted their inaugural “Houndtoberfest” celebration.
Every seat seemed to be filled as patrons and families populated the taproom and dining areas to celebrate the Oktoberfest-style event. Servers wore traditional costumes as they tapped into the customs and spirit of the centuries-old European celebration.
The event featured many polka musical acts headlined by the Dujka Brothers that led the music to end the night for the event. Attendees got to enjoy a full day of events as Hound Song provided entertainment from noon to just before midnight. The music started at 1 p.m. with the Hofbräuhaus Trio before the event initiated the stein hoisting contest at 2 p.m. Patrons got to display their coordination during the Beer Puppeteer Face-Off hosted at 4 p.m. before the final act of the day set the mood for the Grand March through the building.
Led by Grand March Leaders Mark and Patsy Melnar, a line of Houndtoberfest participants paraded through the indoor and outdoor areas of Hound Song with the Dujka Brothers providing the musical backdrop.
Many vendors also got to participate and bring their wares to the outside courtyard area for potential buyers.
The event also featured some news for the original brews provided by the business. Hound Song released two beers in honor of their inaugural event, featuring a return for a previous beer. The Ol’ Bootsy brew returned after becoming a fan-favorite during its prior release, and Herbsäquinoktium released as new beer to the menu.
Along with the release of the new brews, Hound Song also received recognition for another of their current brews as they received a bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival for their La Cabrona brew.
