Despite the recent rainfall in the county, the Colorado County Office of Emergency Management has still advised to continue the burn ban to prevent further fires as the land recovers from the drought conditions in the summer.

While the rain provided some temporary relief for the grass and brush in the area, a significant flush of rain is required before the ground has a satisfactory level of moisture to allow growth.

Without several more days of significant rainfall, the danger of grass and structural fires are still present throughout the area. Citizens of the county are being urged to hold off on burning their piles of trash and wood to help prevent these fires and give some relief to the overextended volunteer fire departments in the county and the surrounding areas.
