HOUSTON — The Columbus Cardinals have established themselves as an offensive juggernaut early in the season as they have scored over 45 points in every game they have played so far. The rushing attack has been a big emphasis as lead running back Ty’Vone Whitehead uses his speed to impact the game and break away for huge gains. Whitehead had yet another huge performance in the Cards’ most recent game against North Forest as Columbus picked up their first shut out in a 48-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

Columbus came out firing in the first with three touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead. The Cards added two touchdowns each in the second and third quarters to push to their final scoreline. Columbus was also impactful defensively as they held North Forest to less than 70 yards on the ground with five tackles for loss. They also forced a few turnovers by the bulldogs with a fumble recovery and an interception by John Schobel.

Whitehead’s night on the ground was indicative of just how dominant the Cards’ offense was. He picked up three rushing touchdowns and finished the game with 226 yards on just 12 carries. Whitehead showed off his ability to create big plays by breaking a 43 yarder for the endzone for his longest run of the day. The rushing attack created another score as Brennan Hicks carried for a touchdown of his own.

The passing offense was efficient as per usual with another quality outing by quarterback Adam Schobel. He tossed out three touchdowns to three different receivers and finished the night with 155 yards through the air. Braylon Fisher, Jackson Hancock and Anthony Shorter each brought in scoring grabs for the offense. Fisher led the team with 63 receiving yards followed by Hancock with 41. The offensive line had a strong day in the trenches for the Cards as they allowed just one tackle for loss from the opposing defense.

After just one home game in the first four weeks of the season, the Cards return home for three-straight games starting with the Huffman Hargrave Falcons as Columbus nears the start of district play. They have shown themselves to be road warriors as they enter Friday’s Homecoming game with an undefeated, 4-0 record.
