Wildcats dominate ground game again for fourth straight

WEIMAR – The Wildcats have officially surpassed their 3-7 record from last season just four games into the current season. Each of the four wins for Weimar have been in dominating fashion as they controlled the trenches on both sides of the ball; getting after the quarterback defensively and making huge holes for their running backs on offense. That trend continued against Snook as they hosted the Bluejays for their homecoming game. The Wildcats stuck to the gameplan as they reached the 50-point threshold for the third time this season in a 51-20 victory.

By the end of the first quarter, Weimar had basically already decided the outcome of the game after several touchdowns in the opening period. They scored 30 points in that quarter while also holding Snook to a shut out in the period. The Wildcats followed that performance with two more touchdowns in the second despite allowing Snook to open their scoring with a touchdown of their own. After both teams went scoreless in the third, Weimar scored the last of their touchdowns in the fourth while the Bluejays scored twice to cut the lead.

The rushing attack once again took center stage for the Wildcats as they put up their second game in a row of over 500 yards on the ground. Their committee of runners combined for 509 yards and six touchdowns as much of their damage came from an effective run game. Wyatt Lacina led all runners with 161 yards and a team-leading three touchdowns. Zach Norrell had the next-highest yardage total with 114 yards on the ground to go along with a touchdown as well. Dreylon McMillian scored two touchdowns to pair with his 72 rushing yards.

Quarterback Huxton Kloesel also contributed with his legs as well as his arm. Kloesel finished the game with 34 yards on just two carries while tossing a touchdown pass to Marcus Castillo.

The Weimar defense also had a strong impact over this game as very few things came easy for the Bluejays. Snook’s starting quarterback was able to complete only three of his 14 passing attempts while also throwing an interception to the Wildcats defense. The turnovers didn’t stop there as the Wildcats forced a fumble and recovered it for their second turnover.

The win on homecoming night kept Weimar perfect on the record book as they pushed their record to 4-0 on the season. The Wildcats have a real test in front of them this week as they start district play on the road against Holland. It will be a battle of unbeaten teams as both try to establish an advantage and take an early first-place spot in the district standings.
