COLUMBUS — The athletic department at St. Anthony Catholic School is gearing up for another competitive year, including handing out the newly established Athletes of the Month award, educators said.
Coaches of each sport vote for the student who has been outstanding while representing the school in their particular sport. Coach Sarah Moore started the program, officials said.
The August winners, each of whom received a Sonic gift card, include Tristyn Radley for cheerleading, Logan Glueck for volleyball, Deacon Barten for football and John Foster for cross country.
In sports, The Lady Saints volleyball teams will play against St. Philip in El Campo 5 p.m. Thursday.
The B volleyball team will take on St. Joseph at home 5 p.m. Sept. 18.
The next Saints football game is Sept. 20 against St. Michael at Wildcat Stadium in Weimar.
Meanwhile, St. Anthony’s Junior High Academic Rodeo Team competed in the Colorado County Fair Academic Rodeo Sept. 8.
Students showcased their animal projects as well.
Faculty and their families recently participated in the “Run for a Cause” fun run held at the Columbus Municipal Golf Course.
The event raised money for Freedom Service Dogs of America, Purple Heart Mission, Tunnels to Tower Foundation and the Disabled Veterans Foundation.
The regular Friday children’s Mass will be led by the fifth grade.
