EAGLE LAKE — Members of the Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce and their guests gathered at the Community Center to not only celebrate but to prepare for a new economic partnership.

The Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce kicked off its annual banquet on Saturday, Jan. 28 with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by a catered meal at 7 p.m. provided by Lamberto’s Main Street Italian Restaurant.

Attendees placed bids on auction items throughout the night. Items included antique figurines by Helyn Farris, treats provided by Barbara Class, fiber art by artist Bobbe Nolan and more.

At the banquet, GayeLynn Thomas, chamber board member and city alderwoman, gave a presentation on the Rails-to-Trails project, which will connect Austin County, Eagle Lake, Fulshear, Wallis and Weston Lakes with a 31-mile shared, multi-use trail along a former rail line alongside FM 1093.

“Working with the other eight members of the Local Government Corporation on the 1093 Rails-to-Trails project is so exciting!,” Thomas said. “We are moving forward and are ready to get input from the community.”

In her presentation, Thomas said the goal of this project is to develop a trail route that encourages economic development and promotes tourism.

“This is a great economic opportunity for Eagle Lake as well as a chance for the city to pull together to work on a shared goal,” Thomas said.

Thomas said there will be an opportunity for members of the community to join a committee and volunteer. The city will host a community outreach event at the Community Center on March 7. The time has not been set at this time.
