WEIMAR — Researcher and author Charles Hebert will discuss his book “On the Run” and its depiction of the Runaway Scrape during a presentation Thursday at the United Church Fellowship Hall.
The free talk, hosted by Friends of the Weimar Library, is 11 a.m. at the hall, 403 W. Main St.
The stories related by Hebert are based on extensive research of the diaries of Santa Anna, Sam Houston and those involved in the Runaway Scrape, which is when Texas settlers fled the approaching Mexican army from September 1835 to March 1836.
Hebert and his wife, Sylvia, retired to La Grange in 2015 after working as school administrators.
They soon became involved in the history of Fayette and surrounding counties, leading Charles Hebert to pen “The Kreisches of Fayette County: The Remarkable Story of a Remarkable Family,” “On the Run,” “Butternut and Gray,” “Snowden” and “Snowden Vol. 2.”
In addition to writing, Hebert has spoken to numerous civic, historical and state associations.
Listeners said his “easygoing style engages audiences of all ages, bringing history to life and introducing many little-known facts into a captivating presentation,” according to a news release.
Hebert will launch his latest book, Snowden Vol. 2, in October.
