Barbara Hohensee, 83, of Fayetteville, Texas, died Aug. 28, 2023, in Tomball, Texas.
She was born April 28, 1940, to Ernest Joseph Fruge and Agnes (Bertrand) Fruge in Lake Charles, Louisiana. On Feb. 23, 1957, she married Vernon “Chick” Hohensee.
Barbara was a loving wife and a terrific mother. She dedicated herself to raising her six children, which was no easy task while the family moved back and forth between Texas and Louisiana because of Chick’s job in the oil and gas industry.
After successfully raising her children, Barbara started a career in real estate where she worked for many years until settling down to the quiet country life in Fayetteville.
She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Fayetteville, and a member of the Fayetteville Catholic Daughters and the Columbus Garden Club.
She and Chick were active members of the Swiss Alps Dance Club.
Barbara loved to cook, sew, travel and dance. She took special delight in organizing large family gatherings during the holidays that included great food, fun conversation and always games.
These events brought together four generations of family members from across the state.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years; daughters Lana Patterson and husband Stephen, Shannon Damuth and Michelle Hohensee; daughter-in-law Michelle G. Hohensee; sons Kurt Hohensee and Scott Hohensee and wife Scotti; sister-in-law Vernell Antell; brothers Wayne Fruge and wife Gracie and Ernest Fruge and wife Jane; grandchildren Jana Fowler, Adam Patterson, Clay Patterson, Desiree Hullaster, Ashleigh Denissen, Anne Marie Hohensee, Ryan Hohensee, Easton Hohensee, Chanlor Hohensee, Macy Foreman, Ellis Foreman and Jonathan Hohensee; great-grandchildren Grey Worthington, Andrew Fowler, Abby Fowler, Adalynn Pierce, Madelynn Hullaster, Hayes Denissen, Graham Denissen, Mallorie Patterson, Emilie Patterson, Cody Patterson and Hayden Patterson; and one greatgreat- grandchild, Gwynevere Fowler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Blake Hohensee; brother Larry Fruge and wife Waldine Fruge.
Visitation was Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, at Henneke Funeral Home, 1515 Montezuma St. in Columbus, Texas. A parish rosary followed at 7 p.m.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, at St. John Catholic Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. Steve Sauser officiating.
Visitation at the church was 9-10 a.m..
Burial took place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus, Texas.
Reception followed the burial at Los Cabos Mexican Restaurant, 2543 Texas 71 in Columbus.
Pallbearers were Adam Patterson, Clay Patterson, Andrew Fowler, Easton Hohensee, Ellis Foreman and Jonathan Hohensee.
