COLUMBUS – At St. Anthony’s football home opener pep rally, the Saints enjoyed a bit of fun as one of the students got to throw a pie in the face of a teacher because of a fundraiser campaign at the school.
Three teachers were chosen as the candidates to receive a pie in the face for the school pep rally. Students were charged with bringing spare change and money that functioned as their vote to decide which teacher would receive the pie to the face. Pat Bartels, Natalie Barten and Sarah Moore were the teachers that SAS students voted between as they raised funds that eventually contributed to the school’s Angel Scholarship Fund. The St. Anthony’s Angel Fund is a scholarship style award that assists families who have difficulties managing the tuition to attend the school.
After raising just about $348, Mrs. Bartels became the teacher with the highest amount of money attached to her name. The winner was revealed at the end of the pep rally, leading to Mrs. Bartels receiving a pie to the face by student Maddie Wright. Wright was chosen randomly from a container that held the names of every St. Anthony’s student.
After receiving the highest number of votes in the fundraiser, half of the total went to Mrs. Bartels classroom and school supplies, while the other half went into the Angel Scholarship Fund.
The pie in the face fundraiser will return for each home game pep rally with a new set of teachers in the running. The next fundraiser will feature Debbie Kethan, Jenna Crosby and Jennifer Busselman as students will once again bring their spare change to contribute to the fundraiser.
