YORKTOWN – The Weimar Wildcats have gotten the season started with a bang as they have dominated their first couple of opponents as they continue their chase to the postseason. After displaying their offensive capabilities in week one, they had yet another big victory last week as they shut out their opponents with a strong display on defense. Their offense still produced at a high level as the Wildcats controlled the game on the way to a 37-0 victory over the Yorktown Wildcats.
Weimar made sure to establish their advantage over their opponents as early as possible to remove any possibility of a comeback or a competitive game. The Wildcats opened the game with a 23-point first quarter while holding Yorktown scoreless to open a lead of more than 20 points to start the game. The Weimar Wildcats added on a touchdown in the second quarter and another in the third to reach their final score as both teams went scoreless in the final frame.
Defensively, Weimar had a strong outing limiting their opponents’ passing attack. Like in week one, the Wildcats found success applying pressure on the opposing quarterback as they forced some ill-advised decisions and came away with a sack as well. Yorktown’s QB finished the day with two interceptions as the Weimar defense stifled their opponents’ offensive attack. Their front defensive line and linebackers also did a strong job of limiting Yorktown’s effectiveness on the run as the shutout was a full highlight of their defensive capabilities.
The offense for Weimar featured their potent rushing attack as nearly all of their production came on the ground. The Wildcats rushed for 388 yards out of their 413 total yards as they showed flashes of their offensive mentality from a season ago. That approach served them well in this game as Yorktown could not find any sort of defensive momentum or prevent Weimar from marching down the field with the run.
The Weimar Wildcats produced five touchdowns on the ground as they showed how physically dominant they could be at the point of attack. Dreylon McMillian was the biggest beneficiary of some quality blocking by the offensive line. He rushed for 122 yards after averaging 15 yards per carry for the offense. McMillian led the team with two touchdowns on the ground as the lead back against Yorktown. Huxton Kloesel was the next-highest rusher for the Wildcats, finishing with 87 yards on the ground and contributing a touchdown run of his own to help extend the lead.
Weimar also got a big contribution from Zach Norrell as he had a strong game rushing the ball as well. Norrell finished with 80 yards in the game while adding a touchdown to boost the scoring effort for Weimar. Ethan Stech added a touchdown on the ground as well as the committee of runners produced at a high level against a struggling Yorktown defense.
With the victory, the Wildcats jumped to 2-0 on the season with hopes that they will match and surpass last year’s win total of three in the coming weeks. They will take a trip to Somerville to take on the Yeguas on Sept. 8 to try to match their 2022 win total in the third week of the season.
