Weimar VFW Auxiliary Post 5875 prepares for community outreach

WEIMAR – The Weimar Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5875 met Jan. 10 to discuss several community initiatives.

WEIMAR — The Weimar Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5875 met Jan. 10 to discuss several community initiatives.

Chaplain Jeanette Hoelscher said she sent two birthday cards, one sympathy card and delivered one Christmas stocking in December. On Jan. 25, the auxiliary said it will distribute cookies and survival kits to nurses at The Homestead, Parkview, Youens and Duchicela Clinic, Van Houten Clinic, First Home Health and La Grange Veterans Administration Clinic.

Hospital Chair Margie Janecka said she will contact schools regarding student-made valentines for hospitalized veterans to be picked up by Feb. 8 or Feb. 9.

Americanism Chair Jeanette Koenig said she is working on collecting patriotic books to distribute to schools in Weimar around Presidents Day.

Patriotic Instructor Jeanette Koenig said she plans to get the art and singing contests for school kids underway. The deadline for the events will be March 31.

The group also voted to make a donation to the Texas VFW Foundation.

The next meeting is 6 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen.
