EL CAMPO – The varsity runners of the Weimar cross-country team had a strong outing in their most recent meet as they took on a field of 3A-5A teams. Despite being the only 2A team represented, the girls’ varsity team had one of the best days of all the teams as they finished in second place overall after several top performances.
The Ladycats earned their team silver medal with many top-25 finishes as they took the runner up spot behind the Sealy girls. The Ladycats were led by a pair of freshmen as Tate Griffin and Faith Cantwell took the ninth and 10th-place spot respectively. Another freshman took the next-highest finish for Weimar as Addie Zinnante took 15th place for the Ladycats. Alazay Moreno and Brooke Ohnheiser took 21st and 22nd place respectively as the sophomores were part of a young group that led the Ladycats to their impressive outing.
The upperclassmen took top 50 spots to help Weimar complete a strong day overall. Emily Guzman finished in 31st place while Maya Fain finished in 38th. Karen Martinez and Katharina Chaloupka finished in back-to-back placements with 40th and 41st place respectively.
The boys’ side of the tournament featured a Wildcat taking on the first cross-country meet of his career. Freshman Cadyn Booker competed in the meet and took 38th place after his opening performance for Weimar.
Weimar moves on to compete in Van Vleck on Aug. 30.
