City council approves Eagle Scout project

COLUMBUS – City Council gave the green light Aug. 14 to an Eagle Scout project to place new trash cans at the Courthouse Square and other popular spots around town.

COLUMBUS — City Council gave the green light Aug. 14 to an Eagle Scout project to place new trash cans at the Courthouse Square and other popular spots around town.

Scott Korell made the request. Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Scout can achieve and includes a service project that benefits the community.

The council also approved street closures 9 a.m. to noon for the parade during the 45th annual Colorado County Fair.

The closures involve Milam Street (Spur 52) from the elementary school playground to Walnut Street (U.S. 90), and the closure of Walnut from Milam to Veterans Drive.

In other business, members on the dais heard about the July 2023 Golf report, a budget workshop, property-tax rates, general funds and utility funds.

Elected leaders said they want to save money where they can by selectively trimming some funding.

In other business, the council considered three different replats sent by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
