Gerion Nelson 81, of Bernardo, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Aug 16, 2023, in Bernardo, Texas.
He was born on Jun 7, 1942, to William Anton Nelson and Wilma Helen (Meyer) Nelson in Columbus, Texas. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz.
Gerion graduated in 1960 from Columbus High School. He then served time in the National Guard as a helicopter mechanic. He met his loving wife Pauline in 1963 on New Years Eve at Cat Spring Hall and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on September 22, 2023.
He was known for calling all the ladies skinny. He enjoyed church picnics and listening to polka music. He enjoyed the deer camp, hunting and barbecuing. He started pulling with Ford and David Brown farm tractors around 1970. He then built his own tractor known as Crustbuster, pulling at Gilley’s and the Astrodome as some of the highlights. He was a farmer of peanuts, corn, and hay. He raised his three sons in Bernardo where he loved visiting with friends, family and neighbors.
Gerion is survived by his wife Pauline Nelson, sons Donald Wayne Nelson and wife Terri of Bernardo, Brian Scott Nelson and fiancé Jen of Rhome, Texas, and Todd William Nelson and wife Robin of Bernardo. Grandchildren Kaylee Lehde and husband Landon, Mendi Brown and husband Garrett, Shandi Polak and husband Garrett, Randice Nelson, Raegan Nelson, Raelee Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Megan Bennici and Clint Popham, Erin Bennici, Clayton Donaldson, and Erin Wallace; great grandchildren Ledger, Bayler, Brantley, and Braelyn; sisters Sharon Roensch of Bernardo, Carolyn Foster and husband Lester of Shaws Bend, Marilyn Nelson of Columbus, and Susie Strauss of New Ulm; brothers Kenneth Nelson and wife Bonnie of Bernardo, and Murray Nelson of Bernardo.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Nelson and Wilma Nelson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
