Rice cross-country has several top-20 finishers at Sealy

SEALY – The Rice cross-country team found some success as they took on their second meet of the season. Many of their runners have started finding their pace as they look to repeat some of the success they had last season as a team. With many runners finishing in the top 20 last week, they are hoping performances like that stay the norm for the squad.

Many of their runners have started finding their pace as they look to repeat some of the success they had last season as a team. With many runners finishing in the top 20 last week, they are hoping performances like that stay the norm for the squad.

The varsity boys had three top-20 finishes of their own, including one of the Raiders two top-10 finishes.

Payton Engelbrecht was the Raider in the top 10, finishing in eighth place to lead the boys. Jael Valles-Serrano came in next for the varsity boys with an 18th place finish. Hayes Dingler finished in 20th to take the final top-20 spot for the Raiders. JD Fitzgerald took the next finish for varsity with 31st place. Jake Morales and Jose Briones took 52nd and 58th respectively. Noah Lujan rounded out the day for the Raiders with 74thplace.

The JV boys had a few runners just miss out on placing in the top 20. Joe Morales, Luke Engelbrecht and Victor Flores finished in 21st, 23rd and 25th place respectively as the top performers for JV. Luis Tellez was the next highest finisher with a 44th-place finish. Kevin Estrada finished in 55th and Gus Peacock and Daniel Ibbotson finished in 60th and 65th respectively.

The JV girls had a top ten runner of their own as Taylor Eichelberger claimed the seventh-place spot to lead the team. Leliany Toriz and Lexi Rangle brought home top-20 spots as well with 14th and 17th place respectively. Adela Suarez finished in 75th and Melanie Gutierrez finished right behind her in 76th to finish the day for Rice.
