The 2023-24 school year has officially begun as Colorado County High School schools all around the area open their doors for students to return. With Weimar High School and Rice Consolidated High School returning on Aug. 9 and Columbus High School returning on Aug. 10, schools take their official first day as they begin another school year.

The Colorado County high schools will welcome the Class of 2027 into their doors while hosting the Class of 2024 for the final year before their graduation in the spring.

As schools return to action, Colorado County drivers will have to return to following posted school zone speed limits on roads posted with their speed and hours of effect. Texting and cell phone use is prohibited inside of a school zone with the risk of a fine as a potential punishment for infractions. School zones will be in effect for every weekday except for days when the school is not in operation.

Also, drivers must also mind bus safety protocols as buses from elementary to high schools will be in action throughout the day as they transport students to and from their respective schools.

Each school’s website has the supplies to secure and responsibilities to accomplish before the students begin their first classes this school year. Updates have also been posted on each respective school’s Facebook pages as their media accounts function as a specified means of dispersing information.

The Citizen would like to wish the returning students, coaches and teachers good luck as they navigate another school year.
