Weimar releases cross-country fall schedule

The Wildcat crosscountry team is preparing to start up the fall season once again as they attempt to have a second-straight appearance in the regional meet. Several of their runners had strong seasons last year, and they will be hoping to continue that momentum into the fall.

Weimar starts their season with a trip to El Campo for their first meet of the year. The season begins at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23 they take on the varsity- only competition for the opener. A week later on the last day of August, both the junior varsity and varsity squads will travel to Van Vleck to compete at their first joint meet of the season. Varsity runs earlier in the morning at 8 a.m. while JV runs later in the afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

The first meet of September for the Wildcats features their longest trip of the early season with a Friday morning competition at the Galveston Ball meet. Once again, only the varsity squad will be travelling to compete with their runs starting at 8 a.m. Both squads will reconvene the next week on Thursday, Sept. 14 to compete in the Salado- hosted meet.

After several weeks of travelling, Weimar will host their first and only home meet of the season in the latter half of September. The Wildcats meet on Saturday, Sept. 29 with both the varsity and JV squads. The varsity Wildcats get things started at 9 a.m. before the JV squad finishes things out at 10 a.m. The JV team returns the following Friday on Sept. 29 to take on the Giddings- hosted cross-country meet. Varsity travels to Magnolia Beach at Port Lavaca the following day to compete at 8:30 a.m. for their final meet before district.

The district meets for both squads will be hosted by the Shiner Comanches as the JV squad competes in the district meet on Saturday, Oct. 7 while the varsity squad takes on district the following Monday on Oct. 9. If any varsity Wildcats qualify for the regional meet, they will compete again in the Splashway 5000 Regional Preview on Oct. 16 before travelling to Texas A&M Corpus Christi the next week to take on Regionals on Monday, Oct. 23.

The last day of the cross-country season in Texas is Nov. 4 after a a two-day meet to decide the state champions.
