Motorist in intoxication-manslaughter case asking for release

COLUMBUS — A 55-old man convicted of intoxication manslaughter five months ago is asking for his freedom Aug. 1 in the 25th state District Court.

The hearing is set for 9 a.m. in Judge William D. Old’s courtroom, officials said.

James Lockett Jr. filed a motion asking to be released from incarceration and instead be placed on shock probation, according to officials.

Lockett was sentenced to 10 years in prison Feb. 17 in connection with an accident that claimed the life of Ernest Jones, 73, on FM 102.

The two-vehicle collision took place Jan. 26, 2021, according to reports.
