Weimar Independent School District Girl’s Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Roger Maupin joined the Lions at their most recent meeting.
Coach Maupin recently led the program to their sixth state title and was named Texas 2A Softball Coach of the Year.
Maupin said that the team motto was “Don’t give up on me.” He said time and time again the team came back from the jaws of defeat and found a way to win. The success was a total team effort with heroes abounding.
Maupin also talked about the tremendous community support in the playoffs - especially filling the stadium at the University of Texas at Austin for the final two games.
He said recent alumni also gave great counsel and inspiration to the current team. The winning legacy of six state titles in 20 years should live on, they said the future looks bright.
The Lions said there will be a “Meet the Athlete” day on Aug. 7 for the community to meet the players and sign paraphernalia.
The state trophy and game ball are on display at Weimar City Hall.
