Wine Spectator, an international print and digital publication known for being one of the world’s leading authorities on wine and restaurants, recently released their 2023 Restaurant Awards, The Falls Texas earned a Best of Award of Excellence from the publication.

This year’s Award of Excellence recipients were rated on their meticulous wine programs and curated lists that offer diners a unique opportunity to choose wines that one wouldn’t easily find at a local wine store. These awards are given to restaurants that skillfully match their wine selections with their culinary offerings, and the restaurants had to have an array of 700 or more wines to choose from.

Moving beyond just excellence, The Falls Texas “took their efforts a step further,” according to Wine Spectator, and received The Best of Award of Excellence. Along with the criteria mentioned above, the restaurants that qualified for this prestigious award provide their patrons with 700 wine selections or more, including hand-picked vintage varieties, as well as “vertical collections of notable wines and large format bottlings.” Wine Spectator also carefully chooses restaurants that commit to training and educational opportunities for the staff and proper service.

The Falls Texas Operations Manager and Sommelier, Scott Benjamin, has assembled an impressive selection of wines from twenty-two countries, an excellent selection of half bottles, large format bottles up to three liters from top vintners, and vintage selections dating back to 1982. The focus is on family-owned estates offering value at every level. Scott works closely with the Executive Chef at The Falls Texas, Ernesto Villarreal, to pair the menu with interesting wine selections, in addition to offering members and guests the opportunity to attend wine dinners each month presented by representatives from top wineries.

The Falls Texas is a member-only golf resort located in New Ulm, Texas, owned by Becky and Kelly Joy. The Vbar (kitchen and whiskey bar) at The Falls Texas is open to the public Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday for lunch and dinner, as well as Sunday Brunch. The club offers amenities such as golf, tennis, pickleball, pools, lodging, spa, and fine and casual dining opportunities at TheFallsTexas.
