ARLINGTON – Columbus was well-represented in the TGCA All-Star games for a pair of lady sports programs as one player each for the volleyball team and the girls’ basketball team received recognition after both teams reached their respective state semifinal games. Each team made it as far as they did because of the performances of a number of standout players on their respective squads. However, both teams benefitted from an impactful leader that placed themselves in the conversation as one of the best players in the state for the 3A division.
For the basketball team, Karlee Mathis led the way with her mix of strong handling and an elite three-point jumper, earning her a spot on the All-Star squad for lady hoops. Her teammate and fellow star on the court, Ally Tribe, earned her spot elsewhere as the D1-commit for volleyball competed in the volleyball All-Star game. Both girls experienced victory during their All-Star appearances as Tribe helped the Red Team All-Stars take a three-game sweep over the Blue All-Stars. Mathis also played for the Red team in basketbal l, helping them take an 89-75 victory in the All-Star game.
