Lady Cards’ well-rounded effort beats Edna

The Lady Cards varsity basketball team hosted Edna for a district game on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Columbus had a well-rounded scoring effort from several different players as they rolled to a double-digit, 57-45 victory over the Cowgirls.

The Lady Cards varsity basketball team hosted Edna for a district game on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Columbus had a well-rounded scoring effort from several different players as they rolled to a double-digit, 57-45 victory over the Cowgirls.

Despite the final score reflecting a blowout, the Lady Cards battled through a tight game in the first half. After outscoring their opponents 15-13 in the first quarter, Columbus allowed a 12-point quarter to Edna in the second while scoring 11 points offensively. Columbus’ one-point lead at halftime ballooned to much more in the second half. The Lady Cards exploded for 20 points in the period while outscoring their opponents by eight. They added on to their lead in the fourth quarter to finish off the win.

Five players for Columbus scored seven or more points to propel the offense. Karlee Mathis took the lead with 16 points, followed by Treasure Upson and Ally Tribe who tied with 10 points each. Madyson Carter and Sage Thomas added eight and seven points respectively.
