The State Champion Weimar Ladycat softball team continues to have an offseason full of recognition and positivity as statewide organizations give further awards to Weimar for their title-winning performance. With a group of top players that helped contribute to the title victory, the Ladycats had several athletes that performed at an elite level as they outplayed a difficult field of postseason opponents.
One of Weimar’s recognized athletes was Izzy Reeves, a junior during the Ladycats’ playoff run. After her performance this season, she was named to one of TGCA’s All-Star teams to compete in the annual All-Star game against other top softball players in the state. While she was the only non-senior player to be named to an All-Star team, she did not have to compete alone as Head Coach Roger Maupin represented for Weimar as well, coaching Reeves on the Red All-Star team after leading the Ladycats to one of their more difficult state championship runs in the school’s history. The longtime head coach and his incoming senior star picked up one more win as they held on for a 7-6 victory in a hotly contested matchup between the state’s best non-senior players.
Reeves will take the experience from this All-Star game into next season where she will likely be asked to take another step forward with her play after the departure of some significant firepower from a few graduated seniors like Reagan Wick and Paige Pavlu. With an All-Star game victory in the books for both Reeves and Coach Maupin, it has been a while since they last experienced a loss during their lone defeat of the postseason. The duo, along with the rest of the varsity Ladycats, will hope to continue their winning ways when softball starts again during the spring semester in 2024.
