The Weimar Ladycats hosted a varsity tournament during the last week of December which featured appearances by fellow Colorado County school Columbus. The day following the tournament, the two teams competed against each other on the following day as an in-county matchup between both schools that are having strong seasons so far. The Lady Cards had a big scoring game that started from the opening tip as they took a 55-26 victory over the Ladycats.
The Ladycats struggled to get their usually potent offense going against the defensive pressure of Columbus. They reached double figures in only the third quarter, in which they scored just 10 points. The Lady Cards added a highly effective offensive attack on top of their already stifling defense. Columbus came out with a 21-point first quarter to open a big lead. They went on to score into double figures in every following quarter as they went on to take the big victory over their county rivals.
Paige Pavlu took the lead for the Ladycats in terms of scoring. She finished as the only Weimar player with double-digit points, finishing with 10 in the scoring column. Freshman Dedreanna Granger took advantage of her opportunity in the game by putting up seven points of her own and finishing as the team’s second-leading scorer.
The Lady Cards had some quality scoring performances from their players as well. They were led by Karlee Mathis who had 16 points for Columbus. She was followed by Ally Tribe who had 10 points and Treasure Upson who had eight points.
