Navidad Valley Cattle-Women will hold their 10th Annual 5K Ranch Run on Aug. 5 in conjunction with the Schulenburg Festival.

The Reunion Theme will continue as it has inspired family fun and teamwork. This means that along with the traditional age group prizes there will be additional runners recognized. The categories include largest family group, youngest participant, most “seasoned” participant, and runner who travelled the furthest to participate. The category for cross country athletes who are training for their next season as UIL and TAPPS competitors will be continued and has a discounted registration. One change this year is that the event will be chip timed. The 5K will once again be followed by a 1-mile Fun Run for youngsters not quite ready for the full 5K.

Funds raised will be awarded to graduating seniors from Fayette, Lavaca and Colorado counties with an interest in agriculture. According to a release, Navidad Valley CattleWomen have presented over $80,000 in scholarships since they were first awarded in 2006, presenting another $12,000 this spring.

Runners and walkers interested in participating and supporting area youth interested in pursuing their education past high school can register at nvcattlewomenranchrun5k. itsyourrace. com/event.aspx?id=15683 or contact Susie Shank at 979-820-8964. To be guaranteed a shirt, runners/ walkers should register by July 17. Additionally, CattleWomen will be visiting with fellow producers and businesses to support their effort. NVCW said it is now a 501c3 therefore donations are tax deductible.
