The Columbus Lady Cards’ soccer team found a number of opportunities in front of goal as they played against their district opponents from Yoakum. However, both teams had some difficulties converting on their chances as the team’s played each other to a low scoring affair. At the end, neither team could take a definitive advantage as they finished with a 1-1 tie.
The Lady Cards played a tight game defensively even with allowing the lone goal. Lexi Ybarra played a big role in keeping Yoakum at just a single goal with a 12save effort to snuff out their opponents’ chances. Columbus had a solid offensive game plan as well, creating eight shots on goal to pressure Yoakum’s goalie. However, the Lady Cards struggled to break through to the back of the net until they ran a successful corner kick with around five minutes remaining in the match. Aranza Ramirez launched a pass from the corner into the box that ended up in the possession of Lizbeth Gonzalez. Gonzalez pushed the ball past the keeper and claimed the equalizing goal for Columbus to end the game.
