The Weimar Little League Minor All-Stars made history this season after winning the program’s first-ever District Championship after a big win against Twin Cities in the championship game. Their victory qualified them for the sectional tournament for a chance to reach the state tournament. Weimar had early difficulties before climbing back into the tournament with a number of consecutive victories to earn a chance at the sectional championship. The All-Stars needed to win two straight games against Lufkin Little League, the team that gave Weimar their first loss of the tournament. Lufkin stayed undefeated against Weimar and in the tournament, taking first place and moving on to the state tournament.

Weimar’s tournament run started with a rough performance against Lufkin as they struggled through a difficult shutout loss. The All-Stars fell to Lufkin by a 12-0 margin which forced Weimar to play through the second-chance bracket to keep their championship hopes alive. They did just that with a tight victory against Bastrop in the next game, taking a 12-11 victory as they just skated into the next round. The All-Stars had a much easier time against NW Little League as their offensive attack experienced a major boost against their opponents. Weimar finished the second-chance bracket’s second round with a 17-3 victory that brought them one step closer to the championship game.

The next game also featured another strong offensive night for Weimar as they defeated Bryan Harvey by a big 16-2 margin. Graham Gunn had a strong night at the plate with three hits in his three at-bats to help move the lineup along. Hayes Kloesel, Eli Blasig and Brandt Kahanek all hit doubles for Weimar as they continued the hitting onslaught over Bryan Harvey. Wyatt Janecka showed excellent plate discipline, drawing three walks as he consistently got himself on base. The offensive effectiveness helped Weimar move on to a potential championship game.

The victory set Weimar up for a rematch against Lufkin to avenge their first-round loss. Since Lufkin had let to lose in this double-elimination tournament, Weimar would have to win two games in a row to claim the sectional championship. However, they took another difficult loss at the hands of Lufkin to put an end to their championship aspirations for 2023.

After making history with the Minor All-Stars first ever district championship, the town celebrated with a firetruck parade around town to recognize the players that created the history for Weimar.
