Columbus-born MLB-er hits first career homer

Columbus has some representation at the national stage as a Columbus-born baseball player has been making a quick impact for his team in the Major Leagues, the Miami Marlins. After spending some time in the minor leagues for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Dane Myers has gotten a chance to show what he can do at a major-league level. After being signed to the Marlins on July 3, Myers played his first game of his major league career the next day after a surprise call up to the big show. Now, with less than 10 games of experience under his belt, he has already shown an ability to make plays at the next level to help his team win games.

After being signed to the Marlins on July 3, Myers played his first game of his major league career the next day after a surprise call up to the big show. Now, with less than 10 games of experience under his belt, he has already shown an ability to make plays at the next level to help his team win games.

His first game in the big leagues showcased his ability as he put up a strong showing in his MLB debut against the St. Louis Cardinals. He had two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI, all of which were the first stats in each category in his MLB career. He followed that performance up with another two-hit game, driving in another run as well. He was a major contributor to the offense for two straight Marlins victories. He also had his first multi-base hit of his career with a double in the Marlins lone loss in the series finale. It did not take long for Myers to get another significant first in his young career after taking on the reigning National League Champions the Philidelphia Phillies. After putting up another twohit, two-RBI outing in a 4-3 loss to the Phillies in the first game of the series, the Marlins bounced back in a major way with a 7-3 victory. Myers contributed in a big way on the offensive end once again, this time, with the long ball.

In the bottom of the third inning, Myers led off for the Marlins in the 9-hole spot just before the top of the lineup returned to the plate. Instead of just managing to get on base to allow the top of the order to do some damage with a baserunner on board, Myers turned an outside curveball into line drive that sped past the right field wall for his first major league homer. The homerun pushed the Marlins’ lead to 3-0 as they went on to hold a big lead over the Phillies. Myers added another hit before his night was over.

With the opportunity to do some damage in the big leagues, Myers has already had a strong first impression for his first shot as a major league player.
