Summer league success for Columbus hoops

SCHULENBURG – The Columbus Cardinals’ basketball team had the perfect training session during their summer league run as the varsity and non-varsity squads took on several teams. The varsity Cards kept their momentum going from a postseason appearance last season into the summer league as they kept up their strong performances. The future of Columbus basketball also got to show off their skills as the JV team had a strong summer run as well. Both teams came away from the tournament as the summer league champions in their respective brackets.

SCHULENBURG – The Columbus Cardinals’ basketball team had the perfect training session during their summer league run as the varsity and non-varsity squads took on several teams. The varsity Cards kept their momentum going from a postseason appearance last season into the summer league as they kept up their strong performances. The future of Columbus basketball also got to show off their skills as the JV team had a strong summer run as well. Both teams came away from the tournament as the summer league champions in their respective brackets.

The varsity team did not make any mistakes as they took on the rest of the field competing in the tournament. Impact returning players like Cristian Reyna, Trace Braden and Jayden Trapp helped the Cards sweep the tournament. Columbus went 10-0 before bracket play began for the tournament championship. The Cards had two strong games in the semis and in the finals as they finished play with a 12-0 record overall and claimed first place in the tournament.

The Columbus JV team also had a strong run in the tournament as they reached double digit wins as well. They lost just one game during the regular games of the tournament, entering bracket play with a 10-1 record. They never lost another game as they claimed the championship after going 3-0 in elimination play.

The freshman team for Columbus had a few difficulties during their run as they finished the tournament with an even split between wins and losses. They went 5-5 during their regular summer league games before finishing the tournament with a 1-1 record in bracket play.
