Ladycat alum makes history with college team

A former standout on the Ladycat softball team has continued to make a big impact at the next level as she helped contribute to a historic season for her collegiate team. Skylar Heger, a true freshman for the Bossier Parrish Lady Cavaliers, has been a major player for the young team made almost exclusively of freshmen and sophomores. She took a leadership role for the Lady Cavs this year as her strong performances on offense helped her become one of the team’s leading hitters. Heger’s play this season helped her earn a spot on the All-Conference First Team as well as the All-Region 2nd team. Her teammates also boasted impressive stats this season as they helped the Lady Cavs reach the NJCAA National Championship Tournament for the first time in the program’s history.

Heger’s play this season helped her earn a spot on the All-Conference First Team as well as the All-Region 2nd team. Her teammates also boasted impressive stats this season as they helped the Lady Cavs reach the NJCAA National Championship Tournament for the first time in the program’s history.

The Lady Cavs earned their first-ever national tournament bid after one of their best seasons in their less than three-decade long history. The team won 45 games and lost just 15, finishing with the best record in their region and at the top of their division. The Lady Cavs finished with a 19-5 record against their fellow conference opponents in Region XIV. Their main advantage was in their potent offense as no other team in the conference reached anywhere near the success the Lady Cavaliers had at the plate. They finished the conference lead in hits, home runs, RBIs and multiple- base hits. They brought in 434 runs on the season which was 52 more runs than the next highest scoring team. The Lady Cavs also finished in the top five for team batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Many of the Lady Cavs finished with some of the conference’s top stats as they were led by slugger Piper Garcia in many categories.

Bossier Parrish was on another level defensively as well, ranking near the top of several pitching and defensive metrics in the conference. The Lady Cavs finished in a tie for third for fewest runs allowed this season and completed the season with an earned run average of just 2.91 runs per game which was the second-best ERA in the conference.

Heger had some major contributions to the team that helped them achieve some of these statistical marks. In 51 games played, Heger knocked out 11 home runs, picked up 38 RBIs and scored 34 runs of her own. She also had a batting average of .377 as she carried over her hitting and on-base efficiency from her time as a Weimar Ladycat. Heger ranked in the conference’s top 10 for home runs and finished in the top 15 for batting average. She finished just outside of the top 15 for RBIs in the conference as well.
