COLUMBUS – On Tuesday, June 27, the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department reported an incident inside of their station bays.

According to a Facebook post by CVFD, Chris Pilsner with Renslip Fire Protection and Bernardo Fire Department, Firefighter David Meisell, and Fire Administration Officer Duane Naiser were at the station taking measurements for a station upgrade quote when Pilsner heard a popping sound in the station and located CVFD’s tower smoking.

They pulled the unit out of the station with a chain and city truck to the apron and then called for help, CVFD reports. They followed by extinguishing the fire and raising the cab, according to the Facebook post.

CVFD said the fire was centered on the alternator and caused significant damage.

CVFD reports that Delgado’s Wrecker Service assisted with moving the truck to a secured area until it can be transported to Siddions & Martin Apparatus in Brookshire for repairs.
