The Chamber welcomes new executive director

“Welcome to Columbus!” A common greeting as I meet many citizens of Columbus and surrounding communities. Beginning the position of executive director and director of business and commerce for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce on June 1, I kicked off a full and busy schedule. I quickly realized that becoming firmly planted in the community includes joining the Columbus Lions Club, on my way to being a Rotarian, and attending county, city, and other community meetings. Great groups filled with outstanding citizens!

My priority in June is to connect with as many Chamber members as possible, who are outstanding examples of love for their community, the youth of Columbus, and growing a strong local economy. Members are receiving an emailed introduction from me, and I have met with many; I look forward to meeting with many more.

Janet Hollmann and Shelley Janik have been fantastic in welcoming me into their midst, guiding me in their system, and patiently nodding during my brainstorming episodes! The Chamber office is open 9-5, Monday through Friday, with much information for you or for you to share. We have Bicentennial cookbooks, shirts, and memorabilia to mark the historic 200 years Columbus has reached. Costs are minimal, don’t miss out on any of these collectibles.

Speaking of historic—stay tuned for the events of the Columbus Historical Preservation Trust (CHPT), which is planning its “Save the Opera House” campaign! Although it has begun to be called “The Book,” “Seasons of Colorado County” is shaping up. It is a book of photographs to commemorate Colorado County and Columbus. They are looking for photos of historic homes, buildings, and landmarks, holiday decorations and festivities, wildlife, nature and wildflowers, community events and celebrations, architecture, and people around town. If you have photographs that fit these categories, bring them to the Chamber office or give them to one of the CHPT board members.

Magnolia Days Festival and the Columbus Bicentennial celebration have been huge successes for Columbus, and we are excited to keep moving in that direction for next year, so stay tuned! Next is our Nation’s birthday with the Fourth of July fireworks at the Columbus Golf Course. It is HOT, so the swimming pool is open 6-9; shout out to James Janik with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for that! And a big thank you to Liberty Bell Sweet Treats for being on hand!

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce appreciates our members, the town of Columbus, Colorado County, and the many volunteers who do so much to make life here valuable! Many thanks to you all! I am excited and grateful to be so “Welcome[d] to Columbus!” Becky Nutt Executive Director Columbus Chamber of Commerce
