The recognition for the state champion Weimar Ladycats continues as they have received many local and statewide plaudits for their abilities and performance during the UIL State Playoffs. Many individual players have also been highlighted on a state level as they helped contribute to the Ladycats’ sixth state championship. One player that has been receiving several mentions at the state level is graduated Weimar senior Reagan Wick who had a significant impact on Weimar’s success this season and in the postseason.
ScoreBook Live, an online high school sports coverage source, recently released their list of Texas’ top 15 leftie pitchers as part of a series of stories ranking this season’s best softball players. Players from every division were considered as the website attempted to select the most dominant players in Texas regardless of school size. Wick earned a spot in the top 15 for her own dominant performances this season. The site credits her pitching prowess with 361 strikeouts and allowing just over one earned run a game as a large reason she earned the honor as one of the state’s elite lefties. Wick was the winning pitcher in both the semifinal and championship games during the playoffs, and she also finished the season with a 33-3 record overall as a starter.
ScoreBook recognizes her ability as an allaround player as well, highlighting her effectiveness on the offensive side from the plate. Wick knocked out five home runs this season and picked up 40 RBIs with timely hits that helped boost Weimar’s potent offensive attack.
Wick will continue her career and hope to find a similar level of dominance at the next level for Colorado State University.
