A car chase that started west of Hallettsville city limits in Lavaca County ended in Eagle Lake with one person arrested.

On Friday, Jan. 20 around 1:26 p.m., the Hallettsville Police Department said they were notified that the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office was pursuing a white 2011 Escalade into the city limits.

Hallettsville police said they began pursuing the vehicle, which was travelling at speeds of up to 120 mph into oncoming traffic on U.S 90 Alternate, according to a report.

Police say the vehicle continued through Colorado County in which the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, TxDPS, Texas Game Warden and Eagle Lake police all intercepted. Eagle Lake Police Chief Kris Abbott said he was notified by Hallettsville Police Chief Schlauch of the pursuit.

Abbott said Colorado County attempted to stop the vehicle with spikes near Rock Island and then Rice High School in Altair.

The report said the vehicle then traveled through Eagle Lake at a high rate of speed and crashed into a barn in the 2000 block of FM 3013. No injuries were reported.

Hallettsville police arrested the driver and identified him as Alan Zavala, 17, of Rosharon. The report said Zavala was charged for evading with a motor vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Abbott confirmed that the 2011 Escalade belonged to Zavala’s mother. Abbott described the passenger, 16, as a runaway and said the individual may have been pregnant and was transferred for medical attention. The passenger has not been identified nor charged at this time.

Abbott said that Eagle Lake will be fil-Courtesy ing charges.
