Commissioners discuss public hearing, precinct updates

COLUMBUS – The commissioners held a regular meeting on Monday, June 26 to discuss setting a public hearing for emergency services and other precinct updates.

The commissioners reviewed a petition for the creation of an emergency services district to be known as Colorado County Emergency Services District No. 1 and discussed setting a public hearing to be held on Monday, July 24 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse courtroom on the petition and for the proposed creation of an emergency services district to be known as Colorado County Emergency Services District No. 1, and issue the necessary notices pursuant to Section 775.015 of the Texas Health and Safety Code. The court approved.

Precinct 2 Commissioner Ryan Brandt spoke before the court about an application submitted by Colorado Valley Telephone to install buried fiber optic cable on county rightof- way County Road 210. The court approved.

The court also discussed approval of notice that Colorado County will consider offers of an exchange of other real property for the county property presently used as the Precinct 2 satellite precinct yard, located at the northeast corner of West Second and Avenue J in Sheridan, being 3.278 acres in the M.E. Conlee Survey, Abstract No. 691, Colorado County, and authorize notice to be published pursuant to Section 263.006(b), Local Government Code.

Commissioner Brandt said this is the first step of the process and that his precinct is looking at potentially moving the satellite yard to a more suitable location. The court approved.

The commissioners approved a resolution recognizing the Weimar High School Softball Team for winning the 2023 Class 2A State Softball Championship.

The court recognized the team for their “desire, dedication, determination and discipline.” Judge Prause also notes in the resolution that “the court is proud of the achievements of this team in that it shows that teamwork, skill and determination are necessary to attain this high level of proficiency.”

The court also acknowledged the coaching staff in addition to the team members at the meeting.

The commissioners also accepted and approved the annual comprehensive financial report and external audit report for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2022.
