Weimar softball senior Reagan Wick put a bow on a fantastic season by being named the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association’s Softball Athlete of the Year after helping to lead the Ladycats to one of their best regular seasons as well as their sixth State Championship. The recognition confirms what the numbers suggested by backing up Wick’s claim as the premiere softball player of the season for divisions 1A-4A.
For those following the Ladycats’ state title run this season, it is impossible to ignore the impact that Wick had throughout her senior year. Her most impactful performances came on the mound for Weimar as she established herself as one of the state’s best high school pitchers in the state. Wick averaged just over nine strikeouts a game against opposing batters as she displayed her ability to get ahead in the pitch count and get batters to wave at tough pitches. She finished the season with over 400 total strikeouts and threw her 1,000th strikeout during the postseason as Weimar moved on to claim the state title.
Wick had several standout performances this season as she added to a strong pitching resume. She had 17 games with double-digit strikeouts as she found a knack for turning out explosive performances. She hit her season- high total of 18 strikeouts twice in one week after reaching that total against Bellville on March 18 and against Schulenburg on March 7.
The Colorado State University commit completed her senior season as a champion and hopes to continue her success at the collegiate level.
