Columbus Little League teams continue success

The Columbus Majors and Minors have been finding necessary wins when they need them in order to keep their summer seasons alive. Both the girls and boys competed over the last week as they try to win through their districts and move deeper into the bigger Little League tournaments. Several of the teams gave themselves good opportunities to escape with a district championship and move on to the next stage as they try to continue the trend of Little League success in Columbus.

Both the girls and boys competed over the last week as they try to win through their districts and move deeper into the bigger Little League tournaments. Several of the teams gave themselves good opportunities to escape with a district championship and move on to the next stage as they try to continue the trend of Little League success in Columbus.

The Columbus Minor softball team started things off with a difficult victory against Bellville that came down to wire. Eventually, the Minors were able to hold on for a tough 7-6 victory. After a victory against Washington County in the first game of the district’s pool play, Columbus went on to win another tight game over Weimar Little Leage with a 2-0 victory. They followed with another victory against Sealy to move to an undefeated record in pool play so far. They take the field again in Burton on Wednesday, June 21.

The Majors’ softball team also found some success in their tournament as they picked up some pool play wins despite taking an extra- innings defeat to Sealy to begin the district tournament. They responded in a major way by defeating Burleson in their next game to bring their pool record to 1-1. The Majors won once again against Twin Cities to set up a rematch against Sealy with a chance at the championship game on the line. Columbus took the advantage in the rematch and earned their spot in the district championship game.

The Minor baseball team had a difficult start to their district pool play with a tough loss to Washington County to get things started. They responded with a big win against Rice Little League to push their pool record to one win and one loss. The Minors moved on to Brehnam to face Burleson on June 20 in Brenham.

The Majors for the boys took a win against the Burleson Majors to begin their run towards the district championship. The results to their game against Grimes County on Tuesday, June 20 were not available by the press deadline.
