A duo of Colorado County baseball players has been raking in statewide plaudits after raking all season for their respective schools. Brady Henke of the Weimar Wildcats and Ryan Lewis of the Columbus Cardinals have been well-rewarded for their impactful seasons this year. They both displayed true two-way ability with effective seasons at the plate and defensively as well. For their efforts this season, they were both selected to the THSBCA’s South All-Star team where both players manned second base in the annual All-Star game.

The two all-star second basemen had many similarities between their seasons as they each turned in quality performances throughout the year. The seniors each had impressive seasons at the plate as they were strong contributors to their teams’ respective postseason runs. Both players completed their respective seasons in the Regional Semifinal round with Lewis and the Cards falling to Santa Gertrudis while Henke and the Wildcats fell at the hands of rival Shiner. Their play in the postseason mirrored each other as well as they each added major contributions to their offenses and held things together defensively. Henke added another layer as well with some strong pitching performances during the playoffs.

Their regular seasons mirrored each other in a lot of ways as well. In terms of the district awards, they each received some of the highest honors a player can receive as Lewis earned the District MVP award and Henke earned the Offensive MVP award. The THSBCA also selected each of these players to the All-State Elite Team with Lewis earning the honor for the 3A division and Henke earning the same for the 2A division.

The strong seasons for both players culminated in an All-Star selection by the THSBCA to compete against some of the other best senior players in Texas this season. Lewis and Henke combined to man the second- base rotation for the South as they competed against their fellow all stars.

With the recent graduation of both Henke and Lewis, they leave behind a resounding final statement as they took their claim as some of the best baseball players in the state.
