The Turtle Wing Foundation is offering local educational opportunities for educators, daycare staff, and parents/guardians.

Parent training for children with special needs: “Partnering with your Childs Education Team Step by Step” will be held July 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar. Light refreshments will be served. This training is free due to being underwritten by the Turtle Wing Foundation. This training will explore practical steps to build a positive partnership between parents and schools, how to create an introduction portfolio for your child, and important backto- school checklists.

The training is provided by Brenda L. Nelson, M.S. with Nelson Educational Consulting. Nelson has over 20 years of experience with the special education process. She is an ARD facilitator and parent of an adult son on the autism spectrum and has a passion for helping others who share the journey of caring for a child with a learning challenge or disability, according to a release.

Training for day care providers, early childhood teachers, SPED teachers, and paraprofessionals: “Music, Movement and Learning” will be held Wednesday, July 19 from 6-8 p.m. at the Schulenburg Elementary Cafeteria. This is an educational workshop on how music and movement are powerful tools to engage young children in meaningful learning by using a multimodal approach through singing and ASL signing with makes learning fun and creates muscles in young brains.

The workshop will be led by Mike Longoria, a.k.a. Dr. Mike! who has a Ph.D. in early childhood education with over 30 years of early education experience. Dr. Mike! has been a state and national keynote speaker for early childhood conferences, according to a release.
