The commencement ceremony for the 2022-2 Class of cadets for the Rice Texas ChalleNGe Academy Class took place on Saturday, June 17 at Rice Consolidated High School. Colorado County Precinct Four Judge Stan Warfield was the guest speaker at the ceremony.
72 cadets graduated. Some received their GED and others received their high school diploma from Rice Consolidated Independent School District.
The cadets started their program Jan. 15 making 22 weeks for students to collectively complete 951 and half credits equivalent to 475 and half high school full course credits.
Major Darren Owens of the Texas ChalleNGe Youth Foundation presented a $1,000 scholarship to three graduates who will be continuing their education at community colleges and vocational schools.
Cadets celebrated their accomplishment with family and friends. Cadets will return home and work with mentors.
