The Little League teams for Columbus have gotten out to a strong start in the season after a few team claimed their respective Area Championships. The 7U softball All-stars as well as the 8U baseball All-stars had strong performances in their final games of area, claiming the championship and moving on to the next level of little league.
The softball team earned the area championship after a high-scoring victory against Burleson. The 7U All-stars found plenty of runs as they nearly reached 20 runs in a blowout victory. They took firm control over their opponents and finished the game with a 17-10 win.
The 8U baseball team also had a strong outing during their championship game as they had an offensive explosion themselves against Washington County. The boys also reached double- digit scoring as they put up 10 runs in the championship game. They also had an impressive defensive effort, holding Washington County to a shutout.
The 8U softball girls also played in their Area Championship, facing off against Burleson County and falling just short in a hard-fought game. The 9U baseball team also competed in their area championship game against Washington County, but they too fell just short of winning and moving on to the next level.
