High School athletics helped the next generation of Cardinal athletes make some progress in their athletic careers with camps focused on helping them develop the skills and attitudes they will need to succeed at the next level. With camps running all summer, Columbus has already hosted a few in some different sports.

Both the boys and girls looking to advance their skills in basketball got a chance to on June 5 and June 6 during the two-day session. Led by the Columbus coaching staff, players got to work on things such as their handling, shooting and much more as they look to improve to become quality varsity players when their time comes. The camps started as early as 8 am with students from 4th through 6th grade starting the day with training. After a short break, the pre-varsity players from 7th-9th grade got their chance to work on some higher skills.

The softball and baseball teams got to practice their skills on the field on June 7 and June 8 with the 3rd-5th graders getting the first session in the morning and the 6th-9th graders getting their training in later in the morning. While both sessions focused on the fundamental skills needed to succeed, the older group had a bit more detailed training throughout the session as they prepare themselves for high school sports and potentially reach a varsity level.

Camps continued this week as both the boys and the girls had their youth camps on Monday, June 12. The final camps of the summer are for the fall sports, football and volleyball, to get those players ready for an upcoming season that will be just beyond their July 19 camp date.
