Clippers edge Vets in extra innings

The Vets traveled to Shiner Sunday to take on the Shiner Clippers before they went down in a one-run loss.

The Vets traveled to Shiner Sunday to take on the Shiner Clippers before they went down in a one-run loss.

Down 8-4 in the top of the ninth, the Vets plated four runs with two outs to send the game to extra innings. With two outs in the bottom of the 11, Shiner scored to secure the 9-8 win.

Leading the offense were Zane Ponder with three singles and two RBIs, Kevin Polasek with three singles and two RBIs and Clay Barton and Cody Barrett with two singles apiece. Alex Angerstein, Payton Milner, Brady Bippert each had one hit and one RBI each. Elex Pieper drew two walks to go along with his single, and Ryker Goehring also hit a single.

Defensive standouts included catcher Bippert cunning down two runners attempting to steal. Zane Ponder ran down a few fly balls in right field as well. Jeff Osburn, Scott Brosig, and Brooks Norris handled the courtesy running.

Pieper, Goehring and Barrett allowed only four earned runs. Their effort kept Weimar in the game despite the 17 runners left on base and three costly errors.
