Weimar Vets edge New Ulm Firemen, fall to Austin County

After a forfeit win against Jackson County in the first game, the Weimar Vets recorded the second win of the early season by a score of 12-10.

After a forfeit win against Jackson County in the first game, the Weimar Vets recorded the second win of the early season by a score of 12-10.

The Vets led 6-5 after three innings. The Firemen took the lead after a 4-run inning in the seventh, then added a single run in the eighth to take a 10-4 lead. The Vets exploded for six runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. A huge twoout hit by Jared Barton plated the go ahead runs. Cody Barrett pitched the final two innings to shut down the Firemen for the win. Leading the offensive attack was Brady Henke who had two doubles and two singles, Alex Angerstein who had a single and a double and Trey Daniels who picked up two hits as well. Josh Morgan, Kobi Valchar, Dayton Milner all had one single apiece for the offence.

Ryker Goehring reached base twice while Jared Barton brought in the game-winning run with a single and two RBIs.

Kobi Valchar pitched three scoreless innings, striking out three batters, allowing three hits and walking two. The defensive standouts were Barton, Angerstein and Henke.

Yoeman’s work behind the dish were Brett Janacek and Trey Daniels. Cole Duty scored two runs as the courtesy runner.

Vs Austin County, L, 6-5 The Austin County Brewers scored three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to defeat the Weimar Vets 6-5 in a game delayed by lightning on Sunday, June 4. The Vets led 5-3 after seven innings but could not secure the win.

Brett Janacek pitched seven innings, allowing only one earned run, striking out four, walking only two and scattering nine hits. Leading the offense were Janacek, Alex Angerstein, Jared Barton, Kobi Valchar and Josh Morgan who had two hits each.

Some of the defensive standouts were Barton and Brady Bippert who connected on a gunning down a runner attempting to steal second. Another was Dayton Milner throwing out a runner at home trying to tag up from third base with Trey Daniels applying the tag to end the inning.
