AUSTIN – The varsity golf team for Weimar had a strong performance at the boys’ state championship meet as the Wildcats came away with a top-10 effort as a team. Weimar reached State after an impressive outing at the regional level. The Wildcats, led by individual regional champ Hudson Ervin, played their way into first place and claimed the regional championship to earn their spot at the state-level meet. Another quality performance at State helped the Wildcats finish in ninth place as a team with several top individual scores as amongst the team well.
The Wildcats started their first day of competition with a few difficulties as they completed the opener with the third-highest score of the tournament. They finished with a score of 363 as they lost a little ground in the standings following the first day of competition. They made some ground back on the second day as Weimar cut eight strokes from their score on the first day, finishing day two with a 355 to complete the championship meet with a 718 total as a team. Weimar finished with just one more stroke than Schulenburg, the eighthplace team that finished just ahead of the Wildcats in the standings.
Weima r’s reg iona l champion golf team tried to carry some of their momentum from regionals to a quality performance at state. Individual regional champion Ervin helped lead the way for the Wildcats after scoring an 87 on the first day and an 84 on the second day to finish with a total of 171 for the tournament to tie for the team lead. He shared the lead with fellow Wildcat Weston Pavlik who also scored 171 after inversing Ervin’s scores with 84 on the first day and an 87 on the second. Several spots below their mark was Weimar’s next-highest golfer, Brady Henke. Henke finished with a tournament total of 186 after shooting a 94 on the first day and shaving two strokes from his score by the end of the second day.
Dillon Stech and Camden Morrison finished in backto- back placements after drastic improvement from Stech from day one to day two and a consistent performance from Morrison. Stech finished his first day with over 100 after shooting a 104 to start his tournament run. He made an impressive response on the second day, taking an outstanding 12 strokes off his score to finish the tournament with a total of 196 after shooting a 92 on the second day of the competition. Morrison scored a 98 on the first day and a 100 on the second day to finish the state meet with a 198 total.
