Columbus alumni make golf history at Blinn

The alumni of Columbus have been making waves in the collegiate sphere as a pair of former Cardinal golfers contributed to some program history in the sport for Blinn College. Ty Thomas and Carson Wray are a pair of sophomores that made significant additions to their team’s effort at the NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship tournament as they helped the Buccaneers snare the eighth-place spot as a team in a 24-team field. After securing an at-large bid into the championship tournament, Blinn and their roster made up entirely of sophomores secured a top 10 finish, led by a top five individual placement by Thomas.

In just their second appearance in the national tournament since starting the program in 2019, Blinn had some of their best performances of the season that led to the team scoring a 1,175 total after four rounds. Thomas came away with the top finish in Blinn’s championship meet history with fifth place individually. Not only did he secure the school’s first top five finish, but he also became the Buccaneers’ first ever All-American. His teammates added a big boost as well as fellow Columbus graduate Wray helped the cause by placing in the top 50 out of 135 golfers.
